Harry Says Something Stupid, Again
No-longer-Prince Harry made news recently in his appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast where he called the First Amendment to the constitution is “bonkers.”
Such seditious talk would prove to be a serious problem for the “Prince” in most other countries at most times of history.
Lucky for him, in America we have a legal structure that permits him, along with everyone else, to say seditious and defamatory things about his adopted country without fear of reprisal from the state.
The greatness of America can be found in the fact that we will permit the son of a foreign monarchy to immigrate to our country and we’ll make him and his starlet wife fabulously wealthy for doing damn-near nothing at all. And when he decides to defame our Constitution and generally run off at the mouth, he will face no legal sanction.
All thanks to that “bonkers” First Amendment.
There has been a disquieting amount of grousing about the First Amendment from all quarters in recent years. Can man be free in any meaningful way if he is not permitted to think and speak as he sees fit? I think not.
“Prince” Harry would do well to remember that he came to these shores seeking freedom. Now that he has it, he ought not disdain it. He ought even to express some gratitude for the law of his adopted county. Especially the First Amendment which protects the right of former Princes to radiate inanity like a disco ball.
But I suspect self-awareness will continue to elude the former royal.
