Don’t Let Politics Make You an Ass
If you spent the last year complaining about mask “Karens” but now find yourself cheering on Ricky Schroder and his ilk, it’s time for introspection.
The title pretty much says it all. We’re surrounded by people who have allowed politics to consume them to the point that they’ve become unbearable asses to their neighbors.
On the Right, we’ve spent the last year scoffing at liberal “Karens” heaping abuse on people for daring to walk maskless alone on empty streets and in empty parks and on empty trails. Why? Because they were being asses for no good reason.
Now that the tide seems to be turning, and mask mandates are being lifted, it seems “conservatives” are determined to take the mantle of assery upon themselves for a bit. Consider Ricky Schroder who decided to make an ass out of himself by confronting a Costco employee about Costco’s corporate mask policy.
Jason, a supervisor at a local Costco in Southern California, had no role in creating the policy, cannot change it, and has no option but to enforce it. He was simply doing his job under less than ideal conditions for what is likely mediocre pay.
Enter Schroder, an entitled, privileged, washed-up actor who has decided that Jason is his great moral foe. For the crime of doing his job (courteously it should be added). Schroder used him to make a point (a stupid point that was not worth making).
Jason didn’t ask to be part of this debate. He didn’t join it voluntarily. He was going about his life like a normal person. Doing his job. Until Schroder decided to be an ass. I’m sure Jason and his fellow employees are now more likely to vote Republican thanks to the sterling example of Ricky Schroder, right?
It was gross and wrong when the Left hectored people for not wearing masks and it’s gross and wrong when the Right hectors people for wearing masks. The politics of the person being the ass doesn’t make them more or less of an ass.
If you spent the last year complaining about mask “Karens” but now find yourself cheering on Ricky Schroder and his ilk, it’s time for introspection. Because they’re all asses and they all deserve contempt.
